The first person who is important to me it my aunt Hope! I remember when I was little she who would always take care of me. She was everything to me and still is. She has been a part of every important event that I have had. She has taught me the meaning of love. When I would stay with her, I use to love seeing her draw and paint. My aunt was an artist. She had the nicest paintings and would try to show me how to paint like her. I remember her always telling me how much she loved me. Today as an adult she will send me "I love you" text messages. I am grateful that I was able to have someone like her. She has been there for birthday parties, baby showers and graduations. She means the world to me and she will always be an important person in my life.
One person I will never forget is my freshman math teacher. His name is Mr. Freeze. I was a struggling student when I was in high school and he knew that, but I had A's in his class because math was my strongest subject. I remember telling him how I was not going to finish school and he told me that I would finish. One day we had career day, and several different people came in to talk to us about their jobs and what they did. There was this one girl who was a lawyer. She told us about how she dropped out of school and thought she would never become anything. My teacher looked at me and said "she reminds me of you. I know you can do anything you want" I thought about that all through high school and it was my motivation to try harder. When I was in the 11th grade, I dropped out of high school. I knew I couldn't just do nothing about it, so two years later I went back to school for my GED and passed my tests. A year later I registered for college classes and 9 years later, in between children, I graduated with my bachelor's degree! I believe he played a big part in my reason for going to college. He was a very caring teacher who believed in me and I thank him for that!
If kids come to us from strong, healthy functioning families, it makes our
job easier. If they do not come to us from strong, healthy, functioning
families, it makes our job more important.

I really enjoyed reading your post, It show that our labor in not in vain. Everyday we can deposit something positive into a child's life. I love that quote, I would love to copy and paste and send it to all teachers. Everyday I see children that are struggling academic and behavior problems. They are being put out of school for the whole year as young as kindergarten. What can we do?
i also enjoyed reading your post. It is wonderful that you had a support team like you did. I think it's great that you decided to got back for your GED and then to continue on to go to college. And here you are today getting Masters degree!! You should be extremely proud of yourself!
Thank you Amanda! Regina, this only part of what I have been through. Teacher's words have a great impact on children. I do understand that not all teachers are here because they have a passion. I have seen many teachers who are in this field for the wrong reasons and this is the reason for children being kicked out. That happened this year to one of our students because of behavior issues, but it took one person to step in to help that child and because of her the child is able to be in school.
